PTR110: Structure, Thought & Reality

simon — Wed, 02/20/2008 - 23:25

This unit starts from the premise that what people take to be real reflects the socialisation processes that structure their thinking about the nature of reality. In exploring this idea, we will cover topics as diverse and interesting as power, quantum theory, the history of science, philosophy, metaphysics, ethics, psychology, politics, ideology, the media, virtual reality, terrorism, sexuality and religion. This unit provides an opportunity to think about the different ways that people make sense of their reality. This is important for anyone interested in university study and is essential for anyone with a genuine commitment to understanding the cultural and intellectual factors that contribute to international political conflict.
